On Tuesday, October 20, 2020 the Fairhaven Town Meeting gave it's approval to the construction of a new $1.4 million multi-sport artificial turf field at the Fairhaven Alumni Stadium.  Athletic Director Chris Carrig was ecstatic when he called FHS Alumni President Bob Foster '66 the next day, and he said he was most "excited for the opportunities that will now be offered to the Fairhaven High School student athletes".  He was relieved that going forward a rain storm on a Tuesday won't result in the postponement of a football game on Friday evening because the muddy conditions still exist because of the poor drainage system.  Chris was also thrilled that now the Boys' and Girls' Soccer teams, as well as the Girls' Field Hockey team, will be able to "play under the lights" when their families and friends will be able to watch them compete.  And lastly, he was thankful that our Fairhaven athletes will now have them same quality facilities that so many of our rivals have had for several years.
Chris expects the timeline for construction of the new turf field to be about six months.  To start there will be about three months of engineering and permitting that can be done over the winter, and then in March they should be able to begin the construction phase and have the field completed by June.  If all goes well, the plan is to have a dedication ceremony on the Class of 2020 Field at Fairhaven Alumni Stadium sometime during Homecoming Weekend  June 26-27, 2021.
The FHS Alumni Board of Directors voted on October 29th to spend up to $30,000 for a new multi-sport scoreboard for the new turf field. FHS Athletic Director Chris Carrig is currently soliciting quotes from the major companies that manufacture and install these types of scoreboards.  The Alumni Association is extremely proud to be able to put an exclamation point on the project by funding a first class scoreboard for the new and improved Fairhaven Alumni Stadium.
