The Fairhaven High School Football team capped off their best season in years by whipping Dartmouth 24-7 on Thanksgiving Day at the Dartmouth stadium in front of a packed crowd.  It was the first time that we had beaten Dartmouth since 2011. Dartmouth drew first blood just three minutes in the game by scoring their first and only touchdown of the game. FHS went on to score 24 unanswered points to secure the victory, including a 20 yard touchdown run by #21 Colby Correia (see photo) that completed a 12 minute, 99 yard drive that ended the game.
Fairhaven's Cadence Chase scored on a huge 44 yard touchdown run on a "4th down and 4" with 3 minutes to go in the first half which gave him a total of 20 touchdowns on the season, breaking the FHS single season record of 18 touchdowns previously held by Russell Pickup.  Chase had more touchdowns than any other high school player on the Southcoast, and is a prime candidate for the annual Otto Graham Award that is given to the outstanding football player in the region.
FHS Head Coach Derek Almeida '98, in just his second season at the helm, led his team to a record of 8-3, the championship of the Gold Division in South Coast Conference, and along the way defeated arch rivals Old Rochester and Apponequet.  But the biggest win was this one on Turkey Day against a very good Dartmouth team that finished 7-4 on the season. Coach Derek Almeida is the son of Hall of Fame Coach Dana Almeida '72 who serves as an Assistant Coach under his son.
