David Almeida was one of the last four-letter athletes at Fairhaven High School. His athletic skills brought him recognition in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field. During his three year high school career, he earned nine (9) varsity letters which brought him to the attention of some forty colleges who offered him full scholarships to attend and play.
In football, David was selected All-Bristol County, All Conference, and All-Scholastic in the 1971 and 1972 seasons. In addition, in 1972, he was selected to the Boston Globe Large School All Scholastic team. Baseball found him to be a member of the 1971 All Suburban team, and in track and field he still holds the FHS and Stadium records for 120 yard high hurdles, :15.0 seconds.
Upon graduation from FHS, David accepted a scholarship offer from Boston College, where he started at cornerback (1974-76) and tied a school record for three interceptions in one game. He was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL.
