Karen was a three-sport (volleyball, basketball, spring track), four-year athlete at FHS. She earned ten athletic letters and was a South Coast Conference All Star in all three sports. She captained her volleyball and spring track teams and was highly respected by her teammates and opponents.
Karen's volleyball team went on to state tournament play. As an outside hitter she was recruited by UConn and Northeastern University.
In basketball Karen scored over thirty points three times, with 36 against Dartmouth in the 1987-88 season, her personal high. She averaged 17.2 per game and was a Standard Times All-Star selection that season.
Track and field was perhaps her best sport. Upon graduation, Karen was awarded the Mel Entin Award and the Mildred Parkinson Tunstall Award.
