George Barclay

George Barclay played four sports for Fairhaven High School in the early I 930's He was the quarterback on the 1932 football team, starring in his senior season. In basketball, George played guard, leading the team with his determined play and skill at the position. As a catcher on the baseball team, Barclay handled the duties behind the plate as one of the finest in Bristol County. During his high school years Fairhaven also had a gymnastics team, and Barclay was a member of that, as well.

After graduation from Fairhaven High School, George went on to play for the Fairhaven Varsity Club in the mid '30's, starring in both footbalI and baseball.

Barclay became prominent in the South End Little League (New Bedford) for many years, serving as its president and was instrumental in the original construction of Clegg Field.

He was a postal clerk and postmaster in the town of Marion, retiring in 1958.
