Howie Barrow, a 1967 graduate of Fairhaven High School, enjoyed a fine high school athletic career in basketball and golf. He captained both teams and lead his 1966-67 mates through an undefeated (20-0) basketball campaign.
In 1967 Howie was selected to the Prep All-America High School Basketball Team, was the Capeway Conference scoring champion and was selected to its All League Team. He was also selected as part of the All-Bristol County Basketball Team.
But, it was probably in golf where Howie Barrow's skills shone even more prominently. As a high schooler at FHS, Howie was the New England Junior Golf Champion in 1965 and 1966.
In addition he was selected as the New Bedford Standard-Times "Player of the Week" eight different times during his high school career.
Upon graduation from FHS, Howie was awarded a four year scholarship to Rollins College, Winter Park, FL, from which he took a BA degree in 1971.
