Fred Burke was a three-sport letterman at Fairhaven High School, lettering in football, basketball and baseball. A quarterback and safety on the football team, Fred distinguished himself as a team leader lettering in each of his junior and senior seasons.
In baseball Burke was a pitcher/first baseman who could bat with the best of them. In basketball Fred shone, lettering two seasons and was selected to the All-Bristol County squad in his senior year. Fred's senior season also saw him serve the Mel Entin-coached squad as its captain, and he was the team's leading scorer. From his guard position he either set up his teammates or drove recklessly to the basket, scoring in double figures in each game. Additionally, he was quite a rebounder, "excelling on defense, clearing the backboards... playing his regular aggressive floor game."
Fred joins former teammates Joe Kobak, Bob Mathieson, Warren Griffin, Sherm Kinney, and Ralph Bradley in the Hall of Fame.
