His thesis, "Study of Portuguese Immigration History and the transformation of religious feasting customs maintained by Luso-American descendants in New Bedford", was published in 1989. He has received several post doctoral research fellowships and grants. He has taught for over 30 years at colleges and universities in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York.
