The seventh Campbell to go through the Fairhaven school system, Jean graduated as a recipient of the Julia A. Sears Essay Prize and the Lady Fairhaven Cup. She was editor of the "Huttlestonian, member of the National Honor Society, and divided her extra time between sports and music.

She earned an BA degree at Lasell College where she is currently on the Board of Corporators. While a student, she was president of the Athletic Association, lettered in six sports, associate editor of the yearbook, in several musical groups, and received the prestigious 'white jacket' and several athletic awards.

Transferring to Brown University, she earned a BA degree. She earned her M. Ed. Degree from the University of Hartford and has continued to take a wide range of courses and workshops. In her work as a Girls Scout Executive and Director of the New Bedford YWCA, Jean has touched the lives of a great many people of all ages and backgrounds through developing programs such as child care; youth expanded after school day activities; literacy, employment, finance and investment education; board/committee and leadership training; racial justice and international understanding. As a volunteer she has served as an officer, board member or committee chair of many local, regional, and national organizations. She is the President of the Millicent Library Board of Trustees and is the finance chair or on the investment committee of several organizations, assisting investment clubs in this area and other parts of New England.

Jean wrote the history of the interchurch Council of Greater New Bedford and scripted a video for its fiftieth anniversary. She also wrote a 200 year history of the First Congregational Church. She has provided pictures for three bi-lingual filmstrips on the Azores, Portugal, and Madeira which are used in schools and colleges. Jean has received many community service awards from such groups as the Interchurch Council, International Women's Day, Delta Kappa Gamma Area III, AAUW and was the recipient of a Fairhaven Improvement Association testimonial. She has been included in Who's Who editions for American Women, Finance and Industry, America, and the World.
