He didn’t play on a lot of winning teams in his first three seasons in high school but in his final year at Fairhaven the three-sport athlete made up for “lost” time in a big way. Beginning with the 2013 football season when the junior made his varsity debut as the football team’s starting quarterback, Charette rushed for four touchdowns and threw seven scoring strikes including six in the team’s final three games … but it wasn’t enough to improve a final overall record of 3-8 and a third-place finish in the four- team Small School Division of the South Coast Conference standings.
In basketball he was a bit-player as a freshman for a team that finished 1-19 in 2011-12 and was the team’s leading scorer as a sophomore for the 2012-13 team that improved but, again, failed to qualify for tournament play because of a 6-14 slate. As a junior, Charette did it all by leading his team in scoring but still fell short of lifting his team into the postseason because of a second straight 6-14 record. Those were the two most visible sports he played.
Charette also played key roles for his school’s baseball teams, playing solid defense at short-stop, pitching effectively in key situations and manufacturing clutch hits in crucial situations. But nothing topped his senior year when the talented all-around athlete played well enough to be named to The Standard-Times Super Team in all three sports.
Cam was a record-setter in his final season of football, throwing for a single-season high 12 touchdown passes. His 1,475 passing yards also was a school record for one season and in his two years as the starting quarterback he threw for a total of 2,353 yards.
On the hardwood, Charette averaged a team-high 19.2 points a game, was in double figures in 18 of 20 regular-season games and led the Blue Devils in three-point field goals with 23, finally leading his team into the tournament with a record of 11-8. His highlight game came in the regular-season finale when he thrilled the home crowd by scoring the first 11 points of the game and his team’s first 16 points on his way to a career-high 34 points to surpass the 1,000-point total for his career. (He finished with 1,037).
In baseball Charette authored a 5-1 record as a pitcher with a 1.29 ERA in 38 innings of work and enjoyed what arguably was his most productive game by slugging a three-run home run to highlight a seven-run third inning and was credited with the win by striking out seven and allowing just four base hits in five innings of work in an 11-4 victory over Seekonk in the South Sectional Tournament semifinals. (Fairhaven eventually lost in the title game).
Academically, he graduated from Fairhaven with a 3.51 GPA while taking all honors and AP courses and enrolled at Worcester State where he majored in business and minored in finance. Charette also played football at Worcester State for four years, the first two as quarterback and then two seasons as a wide receiver. Appearing in 10 games as a senior, Cam recorded 43 receptions for 554 yards and five touchdowns. Over his career he appeared in 25 games, catching 51 passes for 621 yards and six touchdowns.
He was married in the fall of 2024 to Isabel Richards and they have recently celebrated the birth of their son Noah. Cam is currently employed by Health Edge as a project manager.
