David was the premiere runner at Fairhaven High School in the early 1990's. In cross-country he compiled a dual meet record of 30-1 and broke numerous course records, including the South Coast Conference meet record. In his sophomore year he won the Division II Freshmen-Sophomore State Coaches Meet. In his junior year he was second in the State Class C Championships and fifth in Division II in the All-States. His senior cross-country season saw him undefeated in dual meets, breaking four course records along the way including that once held by All-American Bill Crowley of Seekonk. Dave was third in the Division III Class Meet and fourth in the All-State Meet.
Dave's star probably shone brightest in track and field where he placed third indoors in the Class C two-mile run with a school record time of 9:40.2 in his junior season. In his senior year he won the indoor State Coaches' Meet mile State Class C mile (4:22.9), the indoor State Class C mile (4:27), and anchored the 4x880 relay to a first place finish. Outdoors he was second in the Class C one mile run (4:22) and at the outdoor New England Championship Meet placed second in the Fairhaven High School record time 4:21.27.
David went on to run at Brandeis University before transferring to Boston University where he was co-captain of the cross-county and track teams. In college he was the All-New England 5K Champion, ICAAAA 5K champion, and a Division I National Qualifier at the NCAA Cross-Country Championships.
