Paul "Spanky'' Demanche was 'pound for pound' one of the toughest of the '70's football players at Fairhaven High School. A gentleman off the field, "Spanky" was the epitome of the kind of leader that should be a team captain.

Spanky lettered in football and baseball, earning South Coast Conference and Standard-Times All-Star honors in football in both his junior and senior seasons. In his senior season he was also chosen as a Boston Globe Division 2 football All-Star.

Spanky went on to the University of Connecticut where he was an undergraduate assistant football coach. He later was an assistant at Bishop Stang and Barnstable High Schools. In 1990 he became Barnstable's head football coach, taking them to a Division I Massachusetts Super Bowl victory in 1995. He was the Cape Cod Times Coach of the Year and the Boston Globe Division I Coach of the Year in 1995
