An outstanding student-athlete, Melissa earned twelve varsity letters in five sports earning her the "Athlete For All Seasons'' award all four years of her high school career. She graduated with honors and was a member of the National Honor Society and ranked 10th in her graduating class.

Missy received the Standard-Times Leadership Award which is awarded annually to a student who played at least two sports and is in the top 30% of their class, and she was also recognized as the 1998 Outstanding Female Athlete at F.H.S. which is awarded by the YMCA and J.C. Penney on behalf of the Women's Sports Foundation and National Girls and Women in Sports.

Melissa played volleyball one year on the 1993 team that lost in the quarter-finals of the South Sectional Div. II state tournament. She also played softball for one year and was selected as a 1998 South Coast Conference All-Star. She ran track for three seasons earning a letter in each.

Melissa played soccer for three years earning South Coast Conference Honors all three seasons. She was the top scorer in the South Coast Conference and the 6thbest goal scorer in the state in the 1997 season.

Playing basketball all four years, Missy set the school record for assists at 350 and also scored 700 points. She was a Standard Times All-Star and a South Coast Conference All-Star in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. She served as a team captain during the 1996-1997 and 1997-1998 seasons. She was selected as the 1998-99 Dave Cowens Award Nominee, which is awarded annually to an outstanding female athlete for athletic ability, leadership, sportsmanship and character.

Melissa graduated cum laude from Mass Maritime Academy with a B.S. in Marine Engineering. She received her commission in the U.S. Naval Reserves in May of 2003. Currently she lives in Naperville, IL and works as a project developer for Recycled Energy Development.
