Emile (Mel) Dubiel's athletic feats while at Fairhaven High School were numerous. He captained the football team for two years and was the captain of the track team. He broke records in pole-vaulting in his section and the state, with his best at 12' 5 1/2" at the Brown University Interscholastic track meet on May 31, 1933. According to the Standard Times he was known "throughout New England as Fairhaven's one-man-track-team."

In 1933 Emile also set a new FHS broad jump record, leaping 22' 2 1/2' while winning the pole vault and placing third in the shot put at a meet in Brunswick, ME.

Dubiel went on to a brilliant career at Harvard University where he captained the track and football teams.

Class president in both his Junior and Senior years, Emile also served as a member of the traffic squad, Debating Club, four years in chorus, and the Junior Prom and Social Committees while at FHS.
