Sheila was one of the finest female athletes to come from Fairhaven in the 80's. She was on the first (only?) tournament field hockey team (1984); she was on the State Class D Runner-up track and field team contributing points in the javelin, 400 m dash, and 4x400 m relay team.
She has held Fairhaven High School records in the 600 yard run ( I:32.7) in indoor track and the 440 yard dash (:61.1) and 400 meters (:61.9) and 16' 11.75" in the long jump. In the 4x440 relay Sheila's team held the school record at 4:19.8. She was also a fine javelin thrower with a high school personal best of 109'7". All of this while never standing more than 5'0" tall or weighing more than I00 pounds.
Sheila was a focused competitor who spent her practice time wisely and worked very hard to reach lofty, but attainable goals.
She went on to U Mass Dartmouth where she continued a fine track career as a sprinter, jumper and javelin thrower. She was twice the Division III New England Champion in the long jump (17'5.25"); eleven times AllĀ New England (Div. III); five times All-EDAC; and was All-New England Div. I twice in the long jump and javelin. Sheila's U Mass career continued as an assistant coach and administrative assistant in the athletic Department
