Entin, Coach Mel

Coach Mel Entin

Graduating class: 1931
Inducted into Hall of Fame: 1994
Hall of Fame Category: Coach

To single out any other coach before Melvin "Mel" Entin would be difficult. For almost five decades, Mr. Entin personified Fairhaven athletics as an athlete, coach, and athletic director. A 1931 FHS graduate, Mel was a five letter varsity athlete, earning letters in football, basketball, baseball, tennis, and track.

After his graduation from the University of Rhode Island, Mel returned to Fairhaven as a teacher and coach. His best years were the late 40's and early 50's when his basketball teams won the state championship. He has been inducted into the Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the State Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.

In 1986 coaches who worked under his direction donated an award in his name "given annually to the senior male and female athletes who combine athletic prowess, academic achievement, leadership, service, and best represent the ideals of Fairhaven High School".
