'Active' is the one word that best describes Paul Fitzgerald during his high school years. Paul was recognized for his abilities in football and track by his selection to the 1st All-Bristol County Football Teams in '50, '5 I, and '52 and second team ('52) and first team ('53) in track.
In 1952 Paul was called "perhaps the most outstanding defensive lineman in the county" as he repeated for his third year on the All-County Football Squad.
On the track Paul set the Fairhaven High School standard in I00 yards at :10.3 in 1953. In addition, he also played basketball for the Blue.
Paul was Vice-President of his senior class ('53), Treasurer in his sophomore year and Secretary as a junior, as well as a student council rep. (President his senior year) and Traffic Squad Captain. Paul was also President of the Fairhaven High School Key Club and Lieutenant Governor of the New England District. Paul represented Fairhaven at Boys State and was the Sports Editor of the yearbook: The Huttlestonian.
Paul went on to the University of Rhode Island where he was a three year letterman in football and track. He was elected to the URI Hall of Fame in 1985.
