Linda Tobertga was voted by her classmates as the "Most Athletic Female" in the Class of 1976. Her outstanding athletic ability, leadership, sportsmanship, and character earned her the Mildred Parkinson Tunstall Memorial Trophy (at the time the highest honor for a female athlete at FHS). Linda was also the recipient of the Athletic Director's (Coaches') Award She earned letters in spring track, volleyball, basketball, and field hockey.
In the Division II spring track meet on May 22, 1976, Linda won the long jump for the Blue Devils with a school record breaking leap of 15' 10''. She was also second in the 220 yards dash with a time of :27.8. She finished the day as a member of the medley relay team, which captured second place.
Her versatility in spring track gained her several first places in the I 00-yard dash, 220-yard dash, 440-yard dash and 440 relay as well as the long jump. Linda was recognized for the 880-yard relay team as part of the first girls' All-Scholastic team ever presented by the Standard Times. The twenty-one member squad was composed of "the best female track runners in the area.'' At the state competition in her senior year she received the Ellery Koch Award for the 440-yard dash.
Besides being a consistent competitor in track and field, Linda was exceptional in field hockey and basketball and was known as one of the most dedicated and modest athletes at Fairhaven High School. She was a member of the Honor Society for three years and was involved in other school activities such as Executive Board, Huttlestonian yearbook Staff, and the prom committee.
