George Graves was a graduate of FHS in 1950. He was a member of the 1948-49 and 1949-50 basketball teams, for which he played guard. However, Mr. Graves is best known by the Fairhaven community as the Vice-President of the former Fairhaven Savings Bank, now Citizens Bank of Massachusetts. George could always be called upon to help out setting up accounts for camp funds, scholarships, or for anything else that was needed by a growing community. He was active at the Boys Club, was a former school committee member (1961-63), was instrumental in founding the Nemasket Group / Job Path at the former Tripp School, worked on obtaining the Cushman Park lights.

George served as treasurer of the Macomber-Pimental Park Memorial drive, and presently serves as treasurer on a number of scholarship boards. In 1985, George received the ''Distinguished Citizens Award" from the Massachusetts Association for Retarded Citizens at the Boston State House. In 1988, he received the Massachusetts Bankers Association award for distinguished community service.
