Hilton (Hilt) Holland

"A thorough sportsman, natural leader, and exceptional competitor, Holland is an excel­ lent type of athlete for future Fairhaven let­ter winners to pattern after" "He is one of the few five letter athletes in Fairhaven athletic history, winning his "F" in football, baseball, basketball, track, and tennis. Then again, he has been honored by captaincies with the tennis, basketball, and baseball teams." Fairhaven Star, June 6, 1923.

"Hilt" was selected as All Bristol County at the quarterback position, a forward on the mythical "ALL" team in basketball, and shortstop on the All Scholastic Baseball Club. In addition, he won the Bristol County Inter- Scholastic Singles Tennis Championship, and the Southeastern Mas­sachusetts Inter-Scholastic Low Hurdles Title.

Upon graduation, Holland was presented with the Sparrow Cup, "awarded annually to the Fairhaven High School boy who has done the most for his school in athletic and at the same time maintained a high academic standing." He continued his edu­cation at the University of Vermont.
