Bob Honohan played football and basketball for the Fairhaven Blue. In 1951 he captained the football team and as a basketball player was one of the finest to wear the colors for Fairhaven. His 1951 football team beat cross-river rival New Bedford for the first time since 1944. Bob was selected all-Bristol County tackle that year as one of the finest interior linemen in the county. In the 1950-51 season his basketball team followed up the state champion 1950 crew with a 24-1 season and another Class B Massachusetts State Championship as well as New England Championship. Bob was selected to the Class B All-Tournament team with teammates Bart Leach and Vern Gomes in 1951. He was honorable mention for the Standard Times team that year, as well. His 1951-52 basketball team also qualified for the Class B tournament.
Bob was a member of the Acushnet School Committee for eight years and selectman for that town for six. In addition, he was president of the Acushnet Youth Athletic Association for nine years.
