Coach Mel Entin often remarked that Joe Kobak was one of the smartest
basketball players that he ever coached, and at the age of thirteen Joe saw some action at the varsity level with the baseball team as a utility infielder.
Joe was a standout in basketball and baseball from 1946-48. He was captain and MVP of the '47-'48 basketball team and was selected to the Bristol County and Taunton Gazette All-Star teams in '48.
He was an outstanding second baseman and leadoff hitter, batting consistently above .300. It has been said that "if you want to start a rally, get Joe Kobak to the plate".
He was president of his Junior Class, Vice-President of his Senior Class, president of the Student Council, and a member of the Honor Society.
