Myra (Powers) Lopes

Myra Powers graduated with honors from Fairhaven High School in 1950 and went on to Bridgewater State College (1954). She is a former teacher in the Fairhaven School system, Parent Co-ordinator and Fund Raiser of the Books and Beyond Reading Program, a member of the Millicent Library Board of Trustees, Joshua Slocum Society International, and the American Biographical Institute Board of Advisors. She was also the principal of the Sheri-Ka Kindergarten for sixteen years.

Her awards include the International Woman of the Year, 1995 and 1996; Fairhaven Improvement Association Outstanding Community Service Award (shared with her husband), 1995; ABI Notable Woman and International Book of Honor, 1995; and many, many others.

Myra has served as the President of the Fairhaven Improvement Association, 1990-93; honorary member of the Board of Directors of the FIA, 1993; other committees and PTA and Music Parents committees as well as local charity drives. She is actively involved in the annual Fairhaven Homecoming Day Fair, which she co-chaired with her husband in 1996 and 1997.

Myra is the author of seven books about Fairhaven, five of which have been approved by the Fairhaven School Committee and are currently used in the Fairhaven Schools.
