Donald Martin was a "dependable and consistent performer for Fairhaven High School during past seasons" according to a Standard-Times article printed just before he graduated.
Donald first made his mark in basketball, playing three seasons for the varsity. He overcame a lack of height by becoming a pacesetter on the court and a sharpshooting scorer. In both his junior and senior seasons he earned "Most Valuable Player" honors.
As a senior cager Don was the team captain, the leading scorer, and was selected to the Standard-Times All Bristol County Team.
A baseball player for three seasons, Don started at short-stop for his junior and senior years. His excellent defense and solid, timely hitting led the Blue to several successful years. Known as a "hustler" on the diamond, he was given the nickname "Pepper" by his teammates.
Following his graduation, Don continued his association with the Fairhaven High School basketball program serving for 28 years as the official timer at all home games and as scorekeeper on the road.
