Christine was one of the finest female track and field athletes to come out of Fairhaven since its adoption of a track program for the girls.
Chris was a three-season/four-year athlete during her tenure at FHS. A volleyball player in the fall, Chris was a setter and fine hitter. In the winter Chris played basketball for two seasons before turning her efforts to indoor track. Indoors she threw the shot put for a school record distance.
But it was in the spring and the field of track and field where Christine excelled. Outdoors Chris led the field in both the discus and javelin events, making school records in each (discus 120'4.5"; javelin 141'3.5"). She was undefeated in dual meets in both events. A South Coast Conference All-Star four times, Chris also was a Standard Times and Boston Herald and Boston Globe All-Star.
In 1986, Chris was the Loucks Games (White Plains, NY) champion in the javelin with a then record throw of 132'8". She also set the Massachusetts Class D record and was the New England champion that season.
Chris was the first ever recipient of the Mel Entin Award in 1986.
