In the 1930-31 school year, only a sophomore, John starred in football and lettered in basketball and baseball. His 8-1 football team won the Bristol County League, beating New Bedford 18-6. In that game 'Junior" averaged IO yards per carry. He was named to the 1930 All Bristol County and Boston Globe All-Star Teams.
In his junior year, 1931-32, Junior was again selected to the Bristol County All-Star Team in football and basketball as well. He also lettered in baseball and track that year, but his spring season was shortened when he seriously injured his knee.
In the 1932 fall season he quarterbacked the football team to yet another successful season, but apparently his injured knee kept him from further competition.
Upon graduating in 1933, John played Minor League Baseball in Oklahoma before returning to the area to play for Falmouth in the Cape Cod League.
