Allen Patenaude was, perhaps, Fairhaven High School's finest track athlete. Although he also played football, his skills as a track athlete dominated his high school career. A state champion indoors at 1000 yards and outdoors at 880 yards, Allen was a scholarship· athlete to Rhode Island College where he was a member of two record setting relay teams (1 mile and 2 mile) and set the Yankee conference mark at 1000 yards (2:14.6) in 1967.

While at Fairhaven High School, Al earned state recognition as a sophomore, winning the state indoor championship in l 000 yards, an accomplishment he continued in his junior and senior seasons. In his senior year, he set the Class D record (2: 16.3), a mark that lasted eighteen (18) years.

Outdoors Allen won class titles in 1963 and 1964 at 880 yards. In 1964, he became the All-State and the New England Champion in his event. Allen was undefeated in all dual meet races of 440 yards and longer over his high school career both indoors and outdoors.

In 1964, Allen Patenaude was a member of the "Future United States Olympic Candidates".

His marks of 2: 16.3 at 1000 yards and 1 :53.9 at 880 yards are still FHS records.
