The arrival of Coach Eddie Pidgeon in 1921 had an immediate positive affect on the athletic programs of Fairhaven High School. In his first year of coaching the football team defeated a team from West Roxbury that had been undefeated for nine years. Four of Fairhaven 's players from Coach Pidgeon's first season were named to the All-Scholastic football team.
In 1922 the football team went undefeated and won the Bristol County League championship. During this season Coach Pidgeon's group engineered the first victory over New Bedford High School in ten years. Fairhaven scored a total of 169 points for the season while holding their opponents to a mere fourteen. Five of Coach Pidgeon's players were named to the Bristol County All-Star team. In 1923 and 1924 the football team repeated as Bristol County League champions.
In 1926 the spring track team under Coach Pidgeon's guidance won the Bristol County League championship. At the state meet that year, competing against thirty-three schools and some 400 competitors, Fairhaven brought home six medals. The relay team finished the season winning eleven out of twelve races. According to the Standard Times, "the coming of Pidgeon marked a new era in the caliber of the Blue".
At the 1923 Athletic Banquet toastmaster Dr. Charles Thompson said, "One thing we're fortunate in having a man who knows how to tum out a successful team; a man who holds the respect of all the coaches and all the teams we have played against this year and in seasons past; a man who is held in the highest esteem by everyone who has dealings with him."
