The FHS school record for 100 yards, :09.8, is held by Geoff Purvis. He was the State Champion in 220 yards in 1959 and 1960, indoor champion in 300 yards in 1960 and 1961, and the outdoor 440 champion in 1961.
In 1961 Geoff, the "Blue Express", placed ninth in the National Interscholastic Track and Field Meet held at Madison Square Garden.
During his high school career Geoff was selected to a number of all county All-Star teams, ran a leg of numerous winning relay teams including the Belmont Relays and St. John's Relays. Geoff was honored by the local newspapers as an all-star outstanding runner in 1960 and 1961.
In addition to his successes on the track, Geoff played football and basketball at FHS.
