Sherman Rounsville was an amazing athlete who excelled in football and track. He lettered in both sports and was also captain of the Track Team. Sherman was a dedicated and hard working fullback in football. He was a key part of the winning football team.
He was an amazing runner and accomplished much during his outstanding high school career. He set track records in the 100 and 200 yard races on the cinder track. Also, he held the state record in the 100 yard dash with a time of 10.2 seconds. At a tri-meet with New Bedford and the YMCA Sherm won the 100, 220 and 400 yard events.
Sherm competed at the Massachusetts Agricultural College Interscholastic Games and anchored the winning relay team with his leg time of 55.0 seconds. Sherm's great success in track continued and in 1923 at the statewide indoor track meet he placed third in the 300 yard event, and anchored the relay team which also finished third.
Sherman's success was not just limited to Massachusetts. On March 10, 1923 in Brunswick, ME he placed third in the 300 event. Sherm Rounsville was an incredible athlete who brought much recognition to Fairhaven High School with his athletic talents in football and track.
