Gil Santos's 1956 yearbook reads: "Ambition: radio announcer", but who was to know that he would achieve that and so much more!

Gil began working as a fill-in and weekend announcer at WBSM in 1959 and moved to WNBH as a fulltime disc jockey and sports announcer, working both stations as well as WAKE and WSRA in Fall River through 1970.

Beginning in 1966, Gil worked at WBZ in Boston, doing Patriots and Boston College Football games. In 1971, Gil took a full time position at WBZ as a sportscaster.

For twenty years he has been the "voice of the Patriots". In addition, he is recognized as the TV voice of the Boston Celtics. Gil worked for ABC Sports at the 1984 Summer Olympics and does NFL football for CBS.

Gil has been the winner of the Massachusetts Sportscaster of the Year Award; New England Emmy Award for play-by-play; twice AP Award for Best Sportscaster in USA; 20 times Mass. Best Play-By-Play; and 15 consecutive UPI Mass. Best Play-By-Play.
