Dr. Milton Silveira was a 1947 graduate of FHS. He went on to the University of Vermont in 1951, from which he graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He received his MS in Aero Engineering from the University of Virginia in 1960 and did post-graduate work at Virginia Polytechnical Institute and the University of Houston. He served as an army pilot and engineering officer in Korea, earning the rank of captain.
Dr. Silveira was then employed by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics. After service in Korea, where he served as an Engineering Officer, Dr. Silveira returned to NACA. He later moved to Houston with the first group assigned to establish the Manned Space Programs, including Mercury, Gemini, Skylab, Apollo, Space Shuttle, and Space Station.
After thirty-six years working for NACA-NASA, he retired as Chief Engineer of all NASA. Dr. Silveira is presently the President of SEL, an Engineering Consulting Firm.
