Lester Smith

Graduating class: 1968
Inducted into Hall of Fame: 2003
Hall of Fame Category: Athlete

Lester Smith was an outstanding athlete in the Class of I968. Playing footba11, basketball and baseball, Lester was a stellar performer for FHS from 1966-1968.

Lester was a solid two-way player for the Blue Devils football team from his split end position on offense and safety position on defense. In baseball, Lester was a standout shortstop and hitter.

But it was it basketball that Lester's star shone brightest as a consistent performer in all three years (sophomore, junior and senior). Lester was a key player on the team in his junior year (1966-67); a team that posted a 22-1 record and won the Conference title. In his senior season Lester led the team to its second undefeated Conference title.

Lester was named All-Conference for two years and was named Second Team All-State and the Most Valuable Player in the Waltham tournament in 1968. His consistency as a scorer and passer and his excellence on defense aided in his selection as the Outstanding All-Around Athlete in Southeastern Massachusetts.

Upon graduation Lester attended Southeastern Massachusetts University, playing basketball for one season before transferring to Louisiana Tech University, where he also played basketball.
