Frank was known as "Little Tuffy" for his tenaciousness. His older brother Alfred was known as "Tuffy" and Frank became known as "Little Tuffy" during his career.
Frank was a multiple-sport athlete at Fairhaven, lettering in basketball, baseball, track, and football. He excelled in the latter, playing end for the Blue. Frank was named to the All-Bristol County football squad for both the 1929 and 1930 seasons for his fine play for the Blue.
In track and field, as a member of the 4x440 relay team, Frank and his mates set the school record for the event. In baseball Frank played third base and in one of his standout games he led the Blue to a victory over New Bedford with a three-hit, 2 RBI, 3 run scoring performance that included a home run as well as a triple.
Frank was also Vice President of his class and a member of the FHS Chorus. The 1932 yearbook states that Frank "knows what is what".
