Abbie Teixeira was on the FHS starting teams in football (halfback and linebacker), baseball (third base), and basketball (guard). His teams amassed the best winning records in the area.
Abbie was selected to the All-Bristol County team as fullback in his senior season. In that 1956 senior season Abbie was a co-captain and one of the hardest hitters from his linebacker position. His gridiron abilities were rewarded with his selection as the Player of the Week for his two touchdown effort in a 21-0 win over New Bedford High.
In his 1956-57 basketball season Abbie's highlight came in a 72-32 triumph over New Bedford.
Upon graduation Abbie went on to play for the Fairhaven Varsity Club in the late 50's and early 60's. He proudly and honorably served two years in the U.S. Army in the 1960's.
Abbie became a tractor-trailer driver at age 17 and served six years as president of the Teamsters Union - Local 59 prior to his retirement.
