Mildred Parkinson was an outstanding athlete, student, and school leader while at FHS. Her athletic activities included basketball, field hockey, softball, tennis, and track, for which she received an award from the Mass. State Department of Education for outstanding achievement. While at FHS she was a cheerleader, the vice-president of the Literary Club, and a member of the French and Latin Clubs, as well as the chorus.
Miss Parkinson went on to Sargent School for Physical Education in Cambridge where she participated in varsity field hockey. In 1934, she was the Greenwood Tennis Club's Women's singles champion. In 1939, she married Cuthbert W. Tunstall, FHS Class of 1926. In honor of her accomplishments the Mildred Parkinson Tunstall Award is presented annually to the "female athlete who demonstrates outstanding athletic ability, leadership, sportsmanship, and character."
