Gary was a three year letterman in football, basketball, and track. He was the Captain of all three teams during his senior year.
In football Gary excelled. He was recognized as All-Scholastic in '70 and "71, All Eastern Mass. (honorable mention) Boston Globe and All Southeastern Mass. Taunton Gazette in 1971. He was also selected to the All Capeway Conference Football Team in 1970 and 1971.
In track he was a member of the Distance Medley Relay Team that set (and still holds) the school record at 11:15.8 in 1969.
Gary was the President of his class in 1970-71.
In 1975, 1981, and 1989, Gary ran and completed the Boston Marathon and in 1991 completed the New York Marathon.
Gary went to Brown University where he lettered for two years in football and received the Broomhead Memorial Trophy for "continuous contribution to Brown athletics..."
