At just 5'2 and 108 pounds, Ray was one of the finest athletes to come from Fairhaven in the I920's. His times of:10.1 in the 100 yard dash and :22 in the 220 would be more than credible by today's standards.
His long jump of 23 feet and IO' IO" in the pole vault and his 220 yard hurdles carried him to success in the Harvard Interscholastic Championships. He captained the FHS baseball team and was named All-Bristol County second baseman in 1922. Ray also starred on the tennis court. In football "peanut" was a running back and in basketball he captained the I921-1922 team, leading it in scoring with 190 points in nine games.
In later years Ray was an avid golfer shooting a round of 50 at the par 54 Emerald Park Golf Course in North Dartmouth in 1969 at the age of 67.
