FHS Alumni Donates New Stage Curtains
On June 8, 2023 new stage curtains complete with the FHS logo were installed in the Knipe Auditorium along with a new, modern track system that replaced the old, malfunctioning apparatus. The old curtains were at least 50 years old and had faded badly and were disintegrating. Our architecturally beautiful auditorium now has the curtains that the space deserves. The workers from Major Theatre Company (Quincy, MA) who installed the curtains and tracking system said that in their years of doing this type of work that they had never seen an auditorium like ours in a public school, and while we were there rather than taking photos of the curtains, one of the workers was taking photos of the gargoyles and the statues in the room .
FHS Alumni Board members Janis (Curcio) Sirois '67 and Samantha Olsen '09 took charge of this project in September 2022 and worked with Karen Corinha (Corinha Design Co.) who led them to Major Theatre Co. Karen suggested creating the FHS logo in three colors (white, gray and light blue) to make the letters stand out, and they certainly do. The cost of the entire project was $12,740 and the Alumni Board utilized some of the funds raised in the 2022 Light-a-Light to finance the project.
