Lyle Drew '90 Promoted to 2 Star General
On July 13, 2024 Lyle Drew '90 earned another star on his U.S. Air Force uniform when he was promoted to the rank of Major General. He is the Deputy Director of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency based at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Lyle was inducted into the FHS Hall of Fame as a Lifetime Achiever in 2018. He is also the proud founder of the annual West Island 5K Road Race which benefits the FHS Cross Country Team as well as the West Island Improvement Association Scholarship Fund.
The DTRA mission is to provide cross-cutting solutions to enable the Defense Department, the United States government and international partners to deter strategic attack against the United States and its allies; prevent, reduce and counter weapons of mass destruction and emerging threats; and prevail against WMD-armed adversaries in crisis and conflict.
Maj. Gen. Drew was commissioned in 1994 from Purdue University’s Reserve Officer Training Corps program. He has held a variety of positions in aircraft maintenance, acquisition program management and professional military education throughout his career, and has commanded at the squadron, group and wing levels as well as served in key staff positions at the major command, Headquarters Air Force and Joint Staff levels.
Prior to his current assignment, the general served as Director of Logistics, Civil Engineering, Force Protection, and Nuclear Integration, Headquarters, Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. He directed policy and procedures for field and depot-level aircraft and commodities maintenance, nuclear weapon systems sustainment, software engineering, conventional munitions, logistics plans, transportation, supply chain operations and management, civil engineering, force protection and logistics information technology activities.
