Alumni Board Awards $22K in Teacher Mini-Grants
At the most recent Alumni Board Meeting on September 22nd it was unanimously voted to award $22,462 in teacher mini-grants to eight different teachers/activities across the academic spectrum at Fairhaven High School to assist them in getting off to a positive start for the 2026-2027 school year.
There were seven different departments that requested grants of up to $5,000 in order to enhance the learning experience for their students in a number of different learning environments. The FHS Drama Club was awarded $4,000 to help with the expenses of their April 2027 production of "Little Shop of Horrors", while the Music Department was granted $5,000 to put towards their planned spring trip with two coach busses travelling to Philadelphia for a music competition, and the popular Ceramics classes needed $1,300 to purchase vital equipment to service the needs of their growing number of students.
The Math Department was given $900 to purchase licensed software that provides excellent assessment tools for teachers to use with their students, while the new school librarian was granted $5,000 towards her efforts to rebuild the high school library's collection of both fiction and non-fiction books.
All of the funds awarded were raised in last year's Light-a-Light fundraising campaign, and new Principal Joshua Hibbard and his staff members were excited to have these funds made available to them in these times of ever tightening school budgets.
