Two Restoration Projects Planned by the Alumni Board
When the new building addition was added to FHS in 1998 the project architect Earl Flansberg solved the "library problem" by converting the original round gymnasium into a beautiful library that now holds many more books and reading materials as well as numerous computer stations.
One facet of that makeover was the covering of the original gymnasium oak floor with wall to wall industrial carpeting that is now almost 30 years old and in rough shape. Your Alumni Association Board of Directors is working with the Fairhaven School Dept. to remove that carpet and then refinish and restore the original oak floor. We hope to complete this project in the summer of 2027, but we need to raise about $36,000 to make it happen. There are numerous glue spots that will need to be sanded down before the floor can be refinished. Your generous donations will help us raise the funds necessary to restore this space to it's original beauty.
If we can raise enough between now and next summer we would also love to restore the floor in Room 309, which is affectionately remembered by many of us from the '50's, 60's and 70's as Mr. Mel Entin's Biology classroom. That room also has an oak floor that has been covered by industrial carpeting that is well worn. This space on the third floor overlooking Huttleston Ave. is now utilized as a Social Studies classroom, and we would love to restore the floor to it's original glory.
We would need to raise an additional $10,500 to complete this work in Room 309 next summer, and we are asking for the help of our FHS Alumni base to make both of these projects a reality in the summer of 2027.
